Our Story

For generations, The Podymore Inn has stood at the heart of Podimore, welcoming travellers, locals and familiar faces through its doors. The building has a story that reaches back centuries, with parts of the inn dating to the 1700s and records showing a building on the site since at least the mid-19th century. Once known as the Butcher’s Arms, it has evolved with the village and the people around it, becoming the Podymore we know and love today. There is something rather special about an old inn like this, with walls that have seen countless conversations, celebrations, reunions and ordinary days, and a doorway that has welcomed generations of people on their way somewhere, or simply coming home. For us, that story is deeply personal.

We grew up in this area and have known The Podymore since we were children. We remember it as part of our surroundings, watching it change and grow over the years, never imagining that one day we would have the privilege of taking its keys and becoming part of its story ourselves. On 1st July 2026, we took over The Podymore for its next chapter, and it feels like coming home in a way we could never quite have imagined. We want to care for this old inn, respect everything that has come before us and gently add our own chapter to its long history. More than anything, we want The Podymore to feel like home — somewhere warm, comfortable and welcoming, where you can settle in by the fire, enjoy good food, share a drink and forget about the world for a little while. Whether you are passing through and looking for a halfway house, a local popping in for your favourite pint, or visiting the area and wanting somewhere that feels genuinely welcoming, there will always be a place for you here.

Our food is rooted in the traditions of a proper country pub, with familiar dishes made with care, using quality, locally sourced ingredients wherever we can. We want things to feel honest and uncomplicated, but done beautifully — good food, good people and a warm welcome. The Podymore has belonged to this community for a very long time, and now, with enormous pride and a little bit of disbelief, we get to look after it. We hope that in years to come, people will walk through these doors and make the same kind of memories that we did growing up, because to us, The Podymore isn't simply a pub. It is a part of home, and we are so very lucky to call it ours.
